This picture book has just won The Premier’s Award for Literature, the first picture book to do so. It is beautiful rendition of the migrant experience in sepia tones pencil drawings. Great for physical and inner journeys. Great if you’re doing Skryznecki.
where can i get some analysis on Shaun Tan’s The Arrival???
It is so beautiful!!! And so connected to the prescribed poetry.
I haven’t got any at the moment but can work on it if you are interested. Let me know.
oh yeah, im doing skrzynecki’s poems…and thought “Arrival” fits in quite well…so i would appreciate if anyone could help!
thanks
I can do that for you. Give me a week and I’ll load it to the blog and the website http://www.e-rudite.net.
I’ve put material on “The Arrival” on the website attached to this blog: http://www.e-rudite.net. On the left hand side of the Home Page is a list of texts you can access. Scroll to Skryznecki. Or use the URL http://www.e-rudite.net/peter_skrzynecki.htm. I hope it’s useful. If not let me know.
Omg thank you so much for sharing this! You have no idea just how much you have helped! 😀
Glad to be of help!
I’ve chosen to use “The Arrival” as my own text but i don’t’ know which Skrzynecki poem i should it relate to. Any analysis on “The Arrival” would be much appreciated.
thanks
I think you could use any of the migrant poems like: Crossing the Red Sea, Migrant Hostel, Central Station and Postcard. Elements of all of them occur in The Arrival.
hey with the analysis of the arrival, those links dont work for me can someone please just copy paste it into this?
I’m also using The Arrival By Shaun Tan for belonging (:
Great book.
Yes, I agree! One of the best for this. Good luck with it.
Have you checked out http://www.e-rudite.net?

Hey check out the new excel english study guide immigrant chronicle it goes through all the poems and it has the The Arrival and Away as related texts, it also goes through paper 1 of the HSC!!!! this study guide is fantastic !!!!!
If you use purchased study notes you have the same notes as everyone else who buys it. If you rely heavily on those notes you are dragging your chances down. The markers want your personal engagement with the text a and information gained from commonly used study notes won’t really give you that.

Yeah I agree but they r a great starting point and they start the thinking process. When I first read these poems I didn’t get the point of the poems but the study guide help define the different key points which allowed me 2 imrove my mark from a low band 3 up to a high band 5!!!

Both texts deal with similar material – immigration- however the techniques are very different. It’s a good but popular choice.

Hi,
My prescribed text is the Namesake and i’ve decided to use the arrival as a related text. For our assignment we have to analyse the text on the notions of belonging and analyse the connections.
Any assistance would be much appreciated 🙂
Both texts share similarities in the representation of migrating from one country to another. The Namesake goes into considerable depth by looking at two generations of a famille, parents and children. The Arrival takes a simpler approach by focussing on one character and using image to represent the issues. As a picture book it has to be simpler however the images in the selves are quite complex

Hi! Thanks for the resources! I need three related texts this year, which all have to be very different texts on different themes but similar concepts. The prescribed text is ‘crossing the sea’ by skrzynecki. I’m thinking about doing the arrival as a picture book. I still need a short story and a novel, any ideas?
Thanks!
