The Arrival is a great text but a lot of people do it now making it more competitive to do it well. Mao's Last Dancer in any of its forms is a great choice and not as likely to be chosen at this point. Catcher is the quitessesntial coming of age/belonging book. It's also a great read. You need to prepare two even if you are only asked for one. The Arrival done well is excellent so long as your grasp of vial literacy is good. Mao is also a good choice. Its a big book but very easy to read. The film is worth a look although I think the book is better.

Obvious ones are The Arrival by Shaun Tan, W H Auden's poem, 'Refugee Blues' or Wole Soyinka's poem, 'Telephone Conversation'. Both can be got from the net. More unusual choices would be the poetry of Oodgeroo Nununcle and other indigenous poets. There's an older anthology of poems and short stories edited by Peter Skyrznecki, Joseph's Coat. Also the work of Angelo Loukarkis.

Heys Im My,

At school my Core of Study is " Strictly Ballroom" and i have chosen to do "The Arrival" as one of my related texts. I'm still thinking bout the other one after coming onto this website. I just want to know If "The Arrival" would be a great related text. Also, i'm thinking whether to do "Mao's last dancer" the book, or "The Catcher and the Rye" although i haven't read either, i just want to research it. Also they're both fiction books so i didn't want to do them both. And since "The Arrival" looksed interesting to me i thought maybe i could do it than doing two books. get me ? Which of the two would have more techniques that would get me more marks and have relate more. That's a lot for your help (:(:
